Location: Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum Ph-II

This portrait shows Prince of Wales, also known as George the fourth in a subdued background. Thick brushstrokes draw attention towards the main subject of the painting in the foreground. George is seen in a half-length profile with his gaze directed towards the onlooker in an informal manner.

Dressed in a black coat, the Star of the Order of the Garter adorns it on the left side while a white shirt with frilled collar is worn below it. The painting was executed by J.A Lalkaka in 1907 after a copy of the original, painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds, which forms part of the collection of the National Gallery, London. It was purchased to form part of the repository of Viceroy's House at a cost of Rs. 500.

George Augustus Frederick IV was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Ireland and Hanover, succeeding his father George III. He was born in 1762 and served as Prince Regent from 1811 until his accession to the throne during George III's illness. He was a patron of arts and culture. He remodelled Buckingham Palace, and rebuilt the Windsor Castle. He was instrumental in the foundation of the National Gallery and King's College, London.
