The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil presented the country's highest sports awards - The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awards, the Dronacharya Awards, the Arjuna Awards, the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy, the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar and the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards at a function at the Ashoka Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 29, 2009. In all three sportspersons received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, four coaches the Dronacharya Awards, 15 sportspersons the Arjuna Award, two sportspersons the Dhyan Chand Award, one University the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy, three sportspersons the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar and four sportspersons the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award.
