Probationers of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) of the 2008 Batch called-on the President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on April 26, 2010. Speaking to the Officers, the President congratulated them on their selection for this prestigious Service of the Government of India. The President said they now have to discharge an important duty. The IFS has to leverage external developments for national growth and security. The world is becoming more and more integrated, and more complex, the President observed. India's growing economic and political stature makes the role of IFS Officers even more important, the President said.
