Children From Kargil District of Jammu and Kashmir Meet The President

A group of 28 children from Kargil District of Jammu and Kashmir called-on the President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil at Rashtrapati Bhavan on September 11, 2009. This group of children were either directly or indirectly affected by the Kargil War in 1999. The children are in New Delhi currently under the Indian Army's Operation Sadbhavana on an educational and motivational tour. Operation Sadbhavana is an initiative of the Indian Army to help people from the state of Jammu and Kashmir to join India's mainstream. The majority of the students are on their first ever visit outside their district or state. During their tour of areas of Northern India, they are being shown glimpses of India's progress in various fields. The President encouraged the children to visit other parts of the country as well, so that they could see for themselves how India is a nation of unity in diversity.
