The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil presented the Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman and the President's Certificates of Honour to eminent scholars of Sanskrit, Pali/Prakrit, Arabic and Persian languages at a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 10, 2008.
The recipient of the Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman was Dr. Shrinivasa Varakhedi.
The recipients of the President's Certificate of Honour in Sanskrit were:- Prof. Lakshminarasimha Bhatta, Pt. Bhalachandra Shastry Joshi, Pt. Navalpakkam N. Varadachariar, Dr. Bhaskeracharya Tripathi, Shri Suresh Ambalal Upadhyaya, Prof. Avanindra Kumar, Prof. Lokesh Chandra (not present to receive the certificate), Shri Chandrashekhar Das, Shri Pudukkotai Subramaniam Ananthanarayana Somayaji (not present to receive the certificate), Shri Perukkaranai Madabhushi Chakravarthyacharya, Dr. Rajdeo Mishra, Prof. Ramji Upadhyaya, Dr. Shiv Prasad Bharadwaj, Prof. Manabendu Banerjee and Shri Suniti Kumar Pathak. The recipients of the President's Certificate of Honour in Pali was:- Prof. Binayendra Nath Chaudhury. The recipients of the President's Certificate of Honour in Arabic were:- Prof. Mohsin Usmani, Prof. Habib Rehan Khan Nadwi and Dr. Shafiq Ahmad Khan. The recipients of the President's Certificate of Honour in Persian were:- Prof. Mohd. Sharaf-E-Alam, Prof. Bombaywala Mohaiuddin Gulam Rasul and Prof. Maria Bilquis.
