The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil met the Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Ordinary Recruits of the Territorial Army at Rashtrapati Bhavan on October 7, 2009 in the Durbar Hall. The family members of the Officers were also present. TheTerritorial Army was formally inaugurated after the Territorial Army Act was passed in 1948. The Territorial Army is part of Regular Army and its present role is to relieve the Regular Army from static duties and assist civil administration in dealing with natural calamities and maintenance of essential services in certain situations etc.
