Robert Clive, Artist Unknown, Bronze
Location: Reserve Collection

This three dimensional sculpture of Robert Clive (1725-1774) stands in contrapposto. Wearing a long buckled Military coat, his buttoned shirt underneath reveals itself imbuing a subtle beauty to the regal sash worn across it. With a round face, his eyes hold communion with the observer. His lips seem to be forming a pout below his sharp nose.

An expression of seriousness prevails throughout his face and his hair is in curled fashion. His left hand holds the hilt of the sword in semi - circular positioning, corroborating the Empire’s authority while the right hand holds a rolled paper.

As the first Baron of Clive, Major-General Robert Clive was born in 1725. He established the military and political supremacy of East India Company in erstwhile Bengal.

Robert Clive served the empire’s office in India from 1744-1760, where he played a prominent role in the first and second Carnatic war, siege of Arcot, the fall and recapture of Kolkata in 1756-57 and Battle of Plassey, to name a few of his achievements.
